Life as a Landscape: Taiwanese Artists Exhibit at 2026 Art Shopping, Carrousel du Louvre, Paris
From 23 to 25 October 2026, the Art Shopping fair took place at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris. LEXPO presented twelve Taiwanese artists at stand C1, showcasing works in watercolour, oil, mixed media, ink, and spray paint. The subject matter is largely drawn from the artists' own lives—from children's picture books and family cats to leaves collected on travels, as well as snow-capped mountains, polar landscapes, and ancient mythical creatures.
Art Shopping is held annually at the Carrousel du Louvre, bringing together artists and galleries from around the world. Visitors can view the artwork in person and engage directly with the creators. Located beneath the Louvre’s inverted pyramid, the venue connects directly to the museum, bridging the gap between contemporary creation and classical art.

Lu.chia often read picture books with her children when they were young, discovering how images can extend the reach of a story. Since picking up the brush, she has used watercolours to create whimsical, dreamlike characters, hoping that everyone who views her work can find a story of their own. Sarena Lo found peace in painting while accompanying her children through art therapy. She loves to travel, and her work often features the plants, flowers, and small animals she encounters along the way, rendered with soft, delicate brushstrokes. Rachel grew up learning flower arranging, tea ceremony, and cooking from her mother. One day, she discovered three newborn kittens under her car; they have been part of her life ever since, appearing in her paintings sometimes as the protagonists and other times resting quietly in the background. Cecily Cheng, whose talent was first recognised by her art teacher during her school years, returned to painting years later. She uses metallic watercolours and coloured pencils, layering them to create lustrous floral compositions and inner landscapes. Felicia Yu, a mother of three, paints women in ornate clothing with calm expressions, evoking an air of oriental classicism and nostalgia—a private sanctuary she carves out for herself amidst her busy life. Karen Chiu returned to Taiwan after a decade of studying and working in Shanghai, where she founded the art education brand Painting Stage. Her primary medium is oil paint, and she draws inspiration from travel fragments and the play of light in daily life, focusing on the modern human psyche—a blend of detachment and a longing for connection.

Billy Degas Lo is known for his high-key, vibrant colour palettes and bold brushwork. For this exhibition, he drew inspiration from the essence of ink and calligraphy to present his "Colourful Abstract Expressionism" series, which oscillates between the figurative and the abstract. Tun-Ju Liao, an artist and university professor, combines ink, acrylic, gold leaf, and the natural texture of lotus leaves to depict flowers. Her "Circle" series explores the concepts of harmony and completeness, reflecting her long-term study of Eastern aesthetics. Grace Tseng, a two-time Guinness World Record holder and the youngest woman to summit all 14 of the world's 8,000-metre peaks, brings the high mountains, polar regions, and frontiers she has traversed into the mythical world of the "Classic of Mountains and Seas," using metallic foil and mixed media to depict sacred mountains and mythical beasts. Lumina Wang, a Paris-based artist and former actress, works across painting, photography, and mixed media. Using dreams, memories, and the subconscious as her materials, she constructs her own "Private Mythology." The figures in her paintings appear as if summoned, drawing the viewer into a story without a definitive answer. Enmo Lin is a Taiwanese artist living in Paris, best known for her architectural watercolours. She uses precise ink lines paired with light, translucent washes to suspend European architecture within vast areas of negative space, allowing us to see familiar buildings anew. DEREX is an international contemporary spray-paint artist who specialises in painting on mirror-polished stainless steel, using starlight and light to depict stories of life, faith, and emotion.

These twelve artists come from diverse backgrounds—mothers, professors, mountaineers, and long-term expatriates. In Paris, they shared the most authentic parts of their lives. Through an open call process, LEXPO selects artists to participate in international art fairs, ensuring that Taiwanese creators gain visibility in different cities and that overseas audiences and collectors are introduced to contemporary art from Taiwan.
